HomeAffordLab (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates this website (the “Site”). The Site is operated from Spain by the HomeAffordLab team, which is the data controller for the personal information described below and can be reached through our Contact page. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have, including rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, “CCPA”).
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us. When you use our contact form or subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.
Information you enter into our calculators. Figures you type into our tools (such as income, home price, down payment, or credit score range) are processed in your browser to show you results. We do not store these figures on our servers or link them to your identity.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our partners automatically collect device and usage data, including IP address, browser type, device type, approximate location (city or state level), pages viewed, time spent on pages, referring URLs, and cookie or advertising identifiers.
2. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies, pixels, and local storage to keep the Site working, remember your preferences, measure traffic, and show advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the Site may not work correctly without them. See our Cookie Policy for details.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display ads served by Google and other third-party vendors.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, visit policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
4. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. Google Analytics collects usage data through cookies. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. How We Use Information
We use information to operate and improve the Site and our calculators; respond to your messages; send newsletters you asked for (you can unsubscribe at any time); measure traffic and performance; display and measure advertising; prevent fraud, invalid ad traffic, and security issues; and comply with legal obligations.
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your name, email address, or the figures you enter into our calculators. We share information only with: service providers that host the Site, send email, or provide analytics, under contracts that limit their use of the data; advertising partners such as Google, which collect device and usage data through cookies as described above; and authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights and users’ safety.
7. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell, or share, and request a copy of it.
- Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CCPA.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Categories collected in the past 12 months: identifiers (such as IP address, cookie IDs, and email address if you contact us); internet or network activity (pages viewed, interactions with ads); and general geolocation data. We collect these from you directly and from your device, for the purposes listed in Section 5.
“Sale” and “sharing” for advertising. Allowing advertising partners to collect cookie and device data on our Site may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under the CCPA. To opt out, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer. We also honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as a valid opt-out request.
How to submit a request. Use our Contact page with the subject “CCPA Request.” We will verify your request by matching information you provide with the information we hold, and we will respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf with your written permission.
8. Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Texas, may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. Contact us using the details below to exercise them. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision email with the subject “Appeal.”
9. Your Rights Under the GDPR
Because the Site’s owner is established in Spain, the GDPR and Spanish data protection law (LOPDGDD) apply to our processing of personal data, wherever you live.
Legal bases. We process data to reply to your messages and send newsletters you requested (your consent and our legitimate interest in answering inquiries, Art. 6(1)(a) and (f) GDPR); to keep the Site secure and prevent invalid ad traffic (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f)); and to use non-essential cookies for analytics and personalized advertising, but only after you consent through our cookie banner where consent is required (Art. 6(1)(a)).
Your rights. You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing done before withdrawal. Send requests through our Contact page with the subject “Privacy Request”; we reply within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
International transfers. Some service providers, including Google, process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Complaints. You may lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es) or the supervisory authority where you live.
10. Data Retention
We keep contact messages for up to 24 months and newsletter data until you unsubscribe. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the settings and policies of Google and our other partners.
11. Children’s Privacy
